I hope you've been enjoying the domain name lists on HotNameList.com. In this post, I wanted to talk a little about HotNameList and why I made the website.
In case you haven't seen the site yet, HotNameList.com is a website that provides over 100 new available .COM domains ideas every weekday.
What's so special about that? Well, first of all, the names are available -- that means you can register them right now with any registrar (GoDaddy.com, Sedo.com, etc). These names aren't expiring and you don't need to go to an auction to get them.
Secondly, the domain names on each day's list are really good names -- they're all .COM's, because those are the names that your customers will remember. And, they're almost all real words, which means they're not generated by combining word prefixes and suffixes, or making up silly sounding words like flickr or tumblr.
Why, then, is the HotNameList service useful? We'll over the many years the internet has been around, almost every domain name you can think of has been registered -- in fact, more than 50 million domains so far. This means that every word in the dictionary, every first name, most last names, country names, business names, every trademark, and almost everything you can think of is taken -- or at least it seems that way. It turns out that it is really hard to find an available .COM domain name. If you've ever tried to find an available domain name, you know what I mean.
So, the reason making HotNameList.com was to show that there are still a lot of great domains available. They're hard to find because the tools available in the marketplace (mostly variations on WHOIS) don't really help people to find the names. This is the problem that HotNameList.com is solving.
There are other good features about the names in our domain name lists, but I'll leave those for a future post.
Thanks for reading the first post, and I hope you enjoy using the site.
